Inspiration…

I’ve been reading a lot, the words of Mother Teresa, who was always on a mission to help others, teaching us that there is more to life than merely ourselves. Today I share with you a few words of inspiration from her… words which I believe give hope to those in despair and encourage us to LIVE!

“Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.

Life is beauty, admire it.

Life is a dream, realize it.

Life is a challenge, meet it.

Life is a duty, complete it.

Life is a game, play it.

Life is a promise, fulfill it.

Life is sorrow, overcome it.

Life is a song, sing it.

Life is a struggle, accept it.

Life is a tragedy, confront it.

Life is an adventure, dare it.

Life is luck, make it.

Life is too precious, do not destroy it.

Life is life, fight for it.”

– Mother Teresa

Here’s to you Dev!

One of my dearest friends Devona, is getting married today.

No matter what bullshit I throw her way, Dev has always successfully managed to dodge it! LOL!!! I know how stubborn I can be, and just the mere fact that she stuck it out with me for the past 18 or so years, shows the awesomeness of her character.

We met for the very first time in 7/35 (1st form) at the Immaculate Conception High School for girls. Coincidentally, she lived right around the corner from my grandmother, resulting in us seeing each other often on the weekends to engage in friendly games of badminton in the middle of the street.

In my teens, I had a definite mean streak, and throughout High School everyone knew me, however I didn’t gravitate toward any particular clique. I also adamantly proclaimed to not have any friends. Yes, these were my angry years.

I know I probably hurt her feelings a few times by telling her that she wasn’t my friend, and that she didn’t know what friendship was. But if I did, she never let on. She always made the effort – throughout our years at ICHS, her brief academic stint in Canada, moving to Florida, finishing her Undergrad at UM, then the ‘trial’ that was Law School – Dev has definitely shown me the true meaning of friendship.

Through breakups and makeups, horror dating stories and sex tips, explaining what a ‘cutlet’ is and then popping it out to show me, I think it’s now safe to say that we are friends 😉

I’m so happy for her, and I almost feel as if I’m MORE excited than she is about the fantastic life she’s about to build with her husband-to-be, Robert… who by the way, is also a pretty awesome person… after all, he’d have to be to score a ‘catch’ like Dev 😛

I wish you both all the best mama!

My formula for a successful relationship…

The 4 L’s

LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH and above all LISTEN.

I love you Dev!!

LIVE!!

Whether it was the early-childhood piano and violin lessons or me and my sisters dancing to “Frankie” in the living room, one thing is for sure, all my life I’ve been a huge fan of music!

Last night at the Village Blues Café in Kingston, Italee, Quizz & Friends launched their new Tuesday night Live Music showcase. DJ Richie Ras kept early-comers entertained, and from the early warm-up of the band, you could feel their talent in each beat and melody that came from their instruments. To top things off, the lineup featured a great selection of artists who definitely knew how to work the stage, as well as work the crowd!!

Opening the show was Juss Ice, a rising star who to me sounds like Snow meets Collie Budz – he was good, though I felt his performance could have lasted a little longer.

The sultry Tami Chynn was up next, and I have to admit that I was really impressed with her vocal skills – that girl got a good set of pipes on her!! I may be a little of a Tami Chynn groupie still…LOL!! But loved her rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” mixed in with “Frozen” – she gave an absolutely STELLAR performance!!

It was a big surprise to me to hear the band start playing the ‘Punani’ riddim. He wasn’t advertised as an act, but out of the crowd came Singing Sweet!! Niiiiiiice!! That was probably my personal highlight of the night!

Gabriel was up next. He gave a good showing, but I can’t say I’d call it ‘great’. It was too long, and it seemed like he was still in war-mode with Merciless, who was not in the lineup. With that said, I think he should have left his lyrical warfare at home. Merciless wasn’t there to fight the war (again) and chances are he won’t even hear about your performance (just saying).

Wrapping up things was Chino. Bwoy, I DO love me some Chino 😛 I think I’m a little of a Chino groupie as well…hmmmmmm.

Like every performance that he does, he gave his all. He definitely lived up to his lyrics – “from mawnin’ wi ah hustle and put wi ALL in…” – It was high energy, interaction with the crowd (big up @presskaypr who get a likkle serenade lol!), and an overall great showing – and I’m not being biased.

What was bad about the night? Hmmmmm… nothing really, except maybe the HEAT! The ceiling fans couldn’t keep up with the amount of people that turned out to support the event.

I HAVE TO give props to all the media who came out, the disc jockeys as well as all the artists who weren’t performing but came to support same way!!

It was a “feel good” night, and I was in no hurry to get home…even though I knew I had to get up early for work.

If you missed it, this is not the end. Quizz, Italee & Friends continues every Tuesday all the way through to the end of July. I can’t wait to see what the lineup will be next week!

Big up Quizz, Italee, stage manager Floozy, Richie Ras, all the artists, and the BAND!!! You were AWESOME!!

p.s. – I wanna be a drummer…that is all.
